Volunteer Highlight - Sameer Mhatre – Website Programmer

SameerWhen you’re making a web series, you need a good website, that much is obvious.  But since neither Geoff or I are web programmers, we needed help.  Enter Sameer Mhatre (left) and his partner Santosh Rathod (right), our web designers all the way over in India.  Obviously Geoff found Sameer online when he posted the project (our website), Sameer bid and won the contract.  Now technically he did get paid a bit but I guarantee the amount of work he’s put into our site doesn’t equal the pay.

Our graphic designer Shamus (see previous volunteer highlight) did a design template for the site and then gave it to Sameer who made it all work.  I don’t really know anything about programming a website, but I just know that when he was done we had a great site!  I really am amazed at how great it looks.

And of course websites are finicky beasts so it’s not as simple as just setting it up and walking away, there’s the maintenance.  Once we were up and running we figured out what we needed in theory versus what we actually needed.  And all those little changes had to be done by Sameer.  Amazingly enough, living so far away didn’t pose a problem.  Geoff’s evening was Sameer’s morning so they were able to talk over Skype and get everything sorted out really fast.

So thanks to Sameer we have a fully functioning website and we hope to keep working with him as our little show continues to grow.

Volunteer Highlight - Shamus Horak – Graphic Designer

Thwackers_Final_LogoWithout Shamus the Thwackers logo would be something I drew in MS Paint with the mouse.  He has done some amazing work for us.  In fact, pretty much all the graphic design work you see on the website was done by Shamus: website art, desktops, iPhone desktops, logo, even our Twitter background.  Everything!

We did so many versions of the logo it was really hard to decide.  In the end I love what we picked but I was just looking through the old versions and I can’t believe the amount and variety of what he had to offer.

I’m not sure if he knew what he was getting into but he’s been amazing.  Whenever Geoff or I get the idea for something new, like our upcoming flyer, we’ll send Shamus an email with our half baked idea.  A few days we get an email back with something amazing!  And he’s fast!  We asked for some changed on the flyer and he emailed right back saying he was sick and would it be okay if he sent it to us the next week.  That’s the kind of guy he is.  He’s just doing this as a favor but he’s just so ready to help.  We can’t thank him enough.  But we try.  Thanks Shamus!

He has over ten years experience working for video game companies creating user interfaces, presentations, pitch packages, t-shirts - basically everything.  Check out his website here.

Volunteer Highlight - Patrick and Craig - Audio Guys

In the coming weeks we're going write up a few pieces on some of the wonderful volunteers who helped us along to get Thwackers to you.  First up: some post audio work.

Patrick Haggart – T-shirt Contest Video Post Audio

Contest2If you’ve watched the video for our t-shirt contest then you’ve seen the work of Patrick Haggart.  After responding to our ad, Patrick took the video and worked his magic.  We didn’t really have any great ideas so we just told him to go for it and we’re thrilled with the results.  Not only that, he worked fast!  Patrick is currently interested in taking on short format projects such as web series, commercials and short films.

You can check out more of his work here and at unscripted.ca.

Teaser1Craig Scott – Teaser Post Audio

With Craig, Thwackers truly became an international production.  Originally from Aberdeen, Scotland he now resides in Leeds, England and did the audio for the Thwackers teaser.  Again, we didn’t really have any ideas for him but he watched the episodes and just got it.  Please check out more of his work here:

The Thwackers Teaser

Well here with go with another video, this time it's a teaser!

Some of you might be wondering why we're releasing a teaser video now, after we've aired the show.  The answer is simply to get the word out to more people.  Since the teaser is short it's a quick watch for anyone interested.  It's easy to convince someone to sit down and watch 30 seconds, which is what we're hoping to get your help with.  We also plan to submit the video to Digg and any other social networking sites to help spread the word in a small format.

You'll also see that we've put a new definition for "Thwacker" at the head of the teaser.  Since "Thwacker" is such an odd word, we've decided to make up our own definitions for it and what you see is the first of many.  We're still not sure how we're going to release all the definitions but we certainly have more on the way.  Hope you enjoy!  And please tell your friends.  Thanks.
